Nipple Shields?
A nipple shield is a thin, silicone teat that can be placed over a mother’s nipple and be used temporarily to help establish breastfeeding or in some cases to help ensure that breastfeeding continues. This leaflet provides information on choosing, using and weaning from nipple shields.
It is very important to seek skilled help if you are planning to use nipple shields or are already using them. If you are considering using nipple shields because you have sore nipples do consult our leaflets Nipple Pain—Why and What to Do, Positioning & Attachment and Comfortable Breastfeeding first and/or speak to an LLL Leader as nipple shields may not be the most helpful solution for you.
